My baby. A Thorn eXp with Rohloff hub, or as Robin Thorn called a Raven eXp, of August 2004 vintage. She is a 530mm/short top tube frame size. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P8088447 |

lights protrude at the sides and due to breaking several the arrangement
was changed in 2005 to one LED above the other. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P8088451 (L) 8 Aug 2004 ID P8088460 (R)

Rear end detail, showing the special drop out that has an extension for a "mini anti rotational torque arm" in the hub to locate to prevent it from rotating. This is a special feature of frames specially built for Rohloff hubs. The alternative is to have a torque arm that is fixed to the chain stay, cf the Arai hub brake, see triplet photo. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P8088473 |

Seat tube detail: L - "Thorn" embossed seat stay end and pump peg. R - Seat stays - rack and brake fittings. Note the "X" bridge between the stays and the cantilever brake bridge. Normally the eXp is fitted with Suntour Self Energising Cantilever brakes, but due the gear changer fouling the cable route for the front brake, V brakes are fitted. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P8088465 (L) 8 Aug 2004 ID P8088468 (R)

Gear changer detail. The Rohloff is designed
for use with straight handle bars, not drops. This is how they
have resolved the problem at SJS cycles. It works quite well. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P808450 |
Gear changer detail. The Rohloff is designed
for use with straight handle bars, not drops. This is how they
have resolved the problem at SJS cycles. It works quite well, and
the short handlebar can also be used to mount a light. Its OK
proving you don't have a bar bag. I only use the white LED light
as a reading light when camping. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P808454 |

Head tube and fork detail: L - "Thorn" badge on on the heads tube. A well located front light - this position works well with a bar bag only when you have your bars raised high up for a nice sit up riding position. R - Head tube and forks looking from the rear. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P8088467 (L) 8 Aug 2004 ID P8088469 (R)

Handle bar detail - the first job was to remove
the "statutory" bell provided by SJSC and replace it with my "Edd the
Duck" bell and add on my old faithful Trek Radar computer. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P808486 |
Saddle detail - a Brooks Conquest sprung leather
saddle. I have added a saddle bag quick release fitting as I
decided to go "retro" and get a saddle bag. ©Stephen Dee 8 Aug 2004 ID P808484 |
