From Ugchelen we headed across the "Dutch Mountains" through Kootwijk and Barnveld to Leusden. This is the girls resting on the flock of sheep statue at Kootwijk. ©Stephen Dee 3 Aug 2004 ID P8038131 |
We camped at the NTKC Den Treek site to the south east of Leusden. This is the toilet block. ©Stephen Dee 4 Aug 2004 ID P8048169 |
This is the plan for Den Treek. The green section in the middle was natural heath land where a rare plant grows and hence not available for camping. ©Stephen Dee 3 Aug 2004 ID P8038153 |
The camp fire at Den Treek has a nice wooden fence - it looks like a fort in the old western films. ©Stephen Dee 3 Aug 2004 ID P8038145 |

The girls tent at Den Treek. Ceri and I camped in the same clearing two years previously. I camped in the next clearing up - so I would be away from the girls snoring. ©Stephen Dee 3 Aug 2004 ID P8038162 |
The rare flower that grows at Den Treek. When the sun goes in the flower closes and reopens when the sun comes out. This flower forms the basis the site pennon. ©Stephen Dee 3 Aug 2004 ID P8038143

Whilst at Den Treek I managed to get a photo of a tick that buried itself in my arm!. Whilst in the Netherlands I pulled 4 out of myself. When I got home I found a rather large one in my back and had to have it burned out with silver nitrate at the local hospital! Apparently the best way to get rid of them, is to cover them with a grease, and they then can't breathe, so they detach themselves. ©Stephen Dee 3 Aug 2004 ID P8038136 |
The next day we cycled a short distance to the NTKC site at Austerlitz site. This site had been recently upgraded with a new brick built toilet block and hot showers. ©Stephen Dee 4 Aug 2004 ID P8048224 |

As we had a very short ride to Australitz we were able to go into Amersfoort for lunch. The girls then went shopping whilst I went train spotting. Amersfoort is a very nice walled town, this is a view at the end of one of the main shopping streets. ©Stephen Dee 4 Aug 2004 ID P8048187 |
As the girls went shopping these are some of the nice town scenes they missed. The Museum Fléhite ©Stephen Dee 4 Aug 2004 ID P8048194 |
The 13th Century Gateway which first inspired Ceri and I to visit Amersfoort in 1999 when we went past it on the train from Appeldoorn to Amsterdam. This is a wonderful location for train spotting! ©Stephen Dee 4 Aug 2004 ID P8048199 |
